[كوى] الكَيُّ معروف. وقد كَوَيْتُهُ فاكْتَوى هو. ويقال: " آخرُ الدواء الكَيُّ "، ولا تقل: آخر الداء الكى. وكواه بعينه، إذا أحد إليه النظر. وكَوَتْهُ العقرب: لدغته. وكاوَيْتُ الرجل، إذا شاتمته، مثل كاوحته. والمكواة: الميسم. وفى المثل: " العير يضرط والمكواة في النار ". والكوة: نقب البيت، والجمع كِواءٌ بالمدّ، وكِوًى أيضا مقصورا، مثل بدرة وبدر. والكوة بالضم لغة، وتجمع على كوى. وأما (كى) مخففة فجواب لقولك: لِمَ فعلت كذا؟ فتقول: كَيْ يكون كذا. وهي للعاقبة كاللام، وتنصب الفعل المستقبل. ويقال: كان من الامر كيت وكيت، إن شئت كسرت وإن شئت فتحت، وأصل التاء فيها هاء، وإنما صارت تاء في الوصل. وحكى أبو عبيدة: كان من الامر كيه وكيه بالهاء. ويقال: كيمه، كما يقال لمه في الوقف.
