يعفر: اليَعفُورُ: الخِشْف، سُمِّيَ بذلك لكَثرة لُزُوقِه بالأرض، قال طَرَفة:
آخرَ الليل بيعْفُورٍ خَدِرْ
أي بشخص ظَبيٍ خَجِل مُسْتَحْيٍ.
