[شمط] الشَمَطُ: بياضُ شَعَر الرأسِ يخالط سوادَه، والرجلُ أَشْمَطُ. وقومٌ شمطان، مثل أسود وسودان. وقد شمط بالكسر يشمط شمطا، والمرأة شمطاء. وشمطت الشئ أَشْمِطُهُ شَمْطاً: خلطتُه. وكلُّ خليطين خلطتَهما فقد شَمَطْتَهُما، فهما شَميطٌ. والشَميطُ أيضاً: الصبحُ ; لاختلاط بياضه بباقي ظلمة الليل. وَنَبْتٌ شَميطٌ، أي بعضه هائجٌ. وقولهم: هذه قِدْرٌ تسَعُ شاةٌ بِشَمْطِها أي بتوابلها. والشَماطيطُ: القطعُ المتفرّقةُ، الواحدة شِمْطيطٌ. يقال: ذهب القوم شَماطيطَ. وجاءت الخيل شَماطيطَ، أي متفرِّقةً أَرْسالاً. وصار الثوب شَماطيطَ، إذا تشقق، الواحد شمطاط. قال الراجز محتجز بخلق شمطاط * على سراويل له أسماط
